My legs, shoulders and almost every part of my body aches. So do the majority of the class of 2/4. The basic reason for that is because we treked 30+ km through MacRitchie and Bukit Timah. And the whole bloody journey hurt. It hurt like blazes and it still hurts.
Started off okay, we got into groups, followed Mel, Elaine, Sarah, Marilyn, Jody, Jacqueline...15 people in total. The bus ride was okay, started doodling all over my notebook. Elaine and Sarah were sleeping, should have followed their example. The instructers told us that it will be a rough trek, and that we won't get lunch until we complete the trek. Fair enough. So we got there, and first thing I noticed was The big, big forest. Got nervous, but since I'm in odac, I can't complain. it looked challenging, was actually quite excited.
Then we waited for our group to start, and in the meantime, we suddenly got branded as the 'steamboat'. No idea how we got that name for our group. I was the ' clam' ingredient. Then, we waited, fooled around a little with Pot aka Emily our instructor, and waited. And waited. Everyone started to get irritated, and we were one of the last to leave. No one was pleased, but everyone started to cheer up once we entered the forest.
Then we went into the forest. At first, it was all fun and cheer, we were all excited when we saw all the nature and company. But after awhile, some of us got tired, and then we started arguing. I don't get it, how so many people in our group can just stroll through the forest, while I was near death. After walking and walking, we finally got out of the forest, into this golf course, where there were ZERO canopies to block the Sun. Sweated like mad. Only compensation were Qi Qing's crackers and Marilyn's. Then we got past the golf course, to the real terror, the treetop walk.
Got petrified with fear, man. I looked down, saw the canopy, looked up, saw the sky, looked left and right, saw the whole area. Freaked out when the bridge started to shake, so i practically scrambled to the other side. Was panting a hell lot when I was done. Then after the walk, we proceeded to the ranger's station, but got lost. We took the same trail three times, then walked up the same hill twice, gaining an extra 3km. We were all losing our nerves, then Elaine lay on the sand, KitYee was digging a hole in the ground, saying that we'll stay the night in here. I was laughing non-stop, for no reason. Quite funny. We finally got to the right route, after following another gruop. Steamboat was one of the last to reach. And it wasn't even half of the trek.
Am too tired to recount about Bukit Timah, all I can say is that my legs were on the brink of death when we were climbing the hill. All I saw were steps and steps. Go up the steps, thought it was over, then suddenly, you see this whole new flight of steps,it was discouraging. Then we walked down the steps, and walked and walked, and then there was another flight of steps. And another flight. Then we were reaching the end, and then there was this downhill slope, that was so steep, I felt like we were walking vertically. Thne we finally reached the destination, and was the last group, but heck that, we finally ate lunch. Styrofoam packed food never tasted so good before.
All in all, it was an interesting experience, but I'll never try it again. My legs need to get saved.
